About Leeuwin Estate

Located in the Margaret River district of Western Australia, Leeuwin Estate is a family-owned institution. Two generations work alongside a highly skilled team of expert winemakers to produce top-ranking red and white wines. The site of Leeuwin Estate was identified for its ideal conditions by Robert Mondavi in 1972. He also mentored Denis and Tricia Horgan, who eventually turned their cattle farm into the estate. The first commercial vintage occurred here in 1979. It was at this time the Leeuwin Estate gained international attention after Decanter Magazine gave the 1981 "Art Series" Chardonnay its highest recommendation. Today, Leeuwin Estate exports its high-quality wines to 30 markets. In addition to making wine, the estate also boasts an award-winning restaurant, an art gallery, tasting rooms, and cellar. Visitors from around the world travel to the estate to take part in events such as concerts, cooking classes, tours, and dinners.

The Leeuwin Estate Experience

Leeuwin Estate provides something different than other wineries. The beautiful landscape along with a wide range of events makes the estate perfect for a weekend getaway. The Leeuwin Restaurant uses high-quality produce from the region and focuses on textures and flavors that pair well with estate wines. It also offers a scenic environment, which includes the surrounding meadow and karri tree forest. For visitors interested in learning more about the estate and its winemaking process, intimate tours are available. These tours provide a behind the scenes look into the history of the estate, the winemaking process, and the art gallery. They also offer food and wine pairing experiences.

Out of the “Art Series” wines sprang the Leeuwin art gallery, which is home to over 150 pieces of artwork by painters such as Lloyd Rees, Arthur Boyd, Robert Juniper, and more. Visitors can browse the gallery before enjoying a selection of wines in the tasting room or having lunch at the restaurant. Guests can also charter a flight and experience the breathtaking landscape of Margaret River or take in a game of golf.

Featured Wines

Leeuwin Estate produces and sells wines under three different labels. These include the Art Series, Siblings, and Prelude Vineyards. The most ostentatious of the three is the Art Series. These wines are age-worthy and the unique labels consist of paintings that are commissioned from top contemporary artists from Australia. The Art Series Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay are prestigiously classified by the Langston wine auction house. US Wine Spectator has featured the Chardonnays in their top 100 editor’s picks. UK Decanter Magazine has featured the Leeuwin Cabernet Sauvignon in their list of top 50 wines of the year.

The Siblings label is a celebration of the three generations that have contributed to the success of Leeuwin Estate. These wines have solidified their place among Australians great wines and have gained international attention. The expressive Prelude Vineyards wines drink very well right after release.
