Gonzalez Byass Facts

Based in Jerez, the groundwork for Gonzalez Byass was laid in 1835 when Manuel Maria Gonzalez Angel started working with British distributor Robert Blake Byass. Twenty years later, the firm officially formed, based in Jerez, and the partnership between the Byass and Gonzalez families continued over the next century, until 1988, when the Gonzalez family bought out their partners. Over this time, Gonzalez Byass has become one of the world's major sherry producers, cellaring over 45 million litres of Sherry and Brandy de Jerez at any given time. Gonzalez Byass's Tio Pepe Fino is perhaps the best-known high-end dry sherry and a consistently fine value. Rapid turnover raises your odds of getting a fresh bottle of this crisp, lemony wine, which is a classic, if distinctly user-friendly, fino. The Amontillado del Duque is a 30-year-old solera worth checking out if you're into wines made from literal raisins. Gonzalez Byass also makes two olorosos, a sweet Oloroso Matusalem, and PX Noe.
