Patz and Hall grew out of James Hall and Donald Patz's friendship, formed during their time working together at Flora Springs Winery.

Varietals Produced at Patz & Hall Wine Company

The two shared a passion for rich, traditionally produced wines from Burgundy varietals, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. When they teamed up with Anne Moses and Heather Patz in 1988, their dreams of producing California wine became a reality. Theirs is essentially a négociant firm, working closely with grape-growers across a broad range of California appellations. The Pinot Noirs are elegant, silky, and medium-bodied, with a common thread of captivating red berry and floral perfume. Never wines of power or weight -- with the exception of the bottling from Alder Springs Vineyard in Mendocino -- they normally show cool restraint and excellent balance. The Chardonnays are dense, complex, and stylish, generally with considerable early appeal. One of the most interesting bottlings is Lee and Larry's 50-50. A split made from two noteworthy Carneros vineyards, Hyde and Hudson.
