NV Laherte Freres Blanc de Blancs Brut Nature Champagne France
Bubbles get us excited, period. But a wine like the Laherte Frères Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut Nature—a bone-dry, $60, 95-point grower Champagne that Antonio Galloni of Vinous called “one of the most memorable wines I tasted this year”...well, that’s the kind of bubbly we live for. Galloni called the Laherte “positively stunning,” praising its “extraordinary finesse.” Wine Advocate called it “beautifully pure.” We call it laser-focused and precise. It is a perfect expression of the winemaking approach of the Laherte family, who fashion this wine from the fruit of 35-year-old Chardonnay vines planted on their best plots in the Coteaux Sud d’Épernay. Champagne doesn’t get any purer than this beauty, which boasts a smoky, flinty nose, generous mid-palate, and a bone-dry and super-long finish. It’s a 95-point stunner that captures the soul of grower Champagne.

2015 Appliqué Sonoma Chardonnay
Appliqué hails from Sonoma County’s Hidden Ridge, the stellar estate that has produced some of our biggest sellers of the past year. The 2016 was even crafted by their 100-point winemaker Timothy Milos and bottled on-site—even the cork attests to its Hidden Ridge provenance. The Chardonnay across Hidden Ridge’s jagged hillsides thrived since the day it was planted. The terrain was rugged, the slopes were steep (55 degrees in places), and the 1700-foot elevation exposed the vines to generous mountaintop sunshine and stiff cooling breezes that grapes love. So founder Lynn Hofacket cultivated Chardonnay across the site’s sandy loam and volcanic basalt soils, and the brand was born. Golden in color, this vivacious white marries Sonoma sunshine with classic styling and mouthwatering, just-picked fruit flavors. The refreshing, mouthwatering acidity will have you reaching for sip after sip after sip. A stellar value.

2018 Old Vines Rosé - Contra Costa County
Drawn entirely from the same 100+ year old vine Zinfandel, Mataro, and Carignane that go into Matt Cline’s single-vineyard Evangelho, Live Oak, Spinelli, and Lucchesi Vineyard bottlings, this is an intentional rosé with flavor to spare. Deliberately picked early to retain bracing acidity, and cold-fermented at 54 degrees over a 6-week period, leeching off deep pink color, the 2018 is a mouthwatering rosé, and our house-pour for the 2019 season. Rich and wonderfully juicy, Cline’s rosé is filled with high-toned wild-berry flavors, finishing with mouthwatering acidity.

2015 Franz Hirtzberger Riesling Federspiel Steinterrassen
Hirtzberger is without a doubt, a pillar of Austria’s famed Wachau region and one of the country’s highly respected producers of dry white wine. The grapes that go into Federspiel Riesling are harvested from the very same vineyards that supply Hirtzberger’s wines that bear the Smaragd label, that of Austria’s highest white wine designation. Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate calls Steinerterrassen “pure, stony,” and “sensational”—“the wine of Hirtzberger's 2015 collection you have to taste.” Meticulously made, absolutely alive with bright citrus, crushed stones, and bracing acidity.

2016 Maison L'Envoye Morgon - Cote du Py Beaujolais Burgundy
The 2016 Maison L'Envoyé Côte du Py is grown in the hard black soils that mark one of the most storied spots in the Morgon Cru appellation. Fermented with natural yeast and aged for 8 months in seasoned oak barrels, this wine is a do-it-all beauty that boasts tons of high-toned red fruit, and is deepened by cinnamon, clove, and complex baking spice. Cleansing acidity keeps this wine taunt and fresh on the back-end, and it finishes with beautifully balanced tea-like tannins that will allow it to cellar for another 2 or 3 years with ease. Hailing from an important site in the Beaujolais district, this beauty surpasses most Côte de Nuits-Villages further up the Côte d'Or.
