They Beat the Wine World to the Punch
Mangin et Fils beat the wine world to the punch.
By the time voguish Champagne lovers started coveting Meunier-dominant bottles, the family-run grower-producer had for years been channeling the grape’s elegance and vibrancy into cuvées like their Brut Nature.
This 100% Pinot Meunier Champagne—grown on vineyards whose grapes once went to Krug—is energetic, refreshing, and precise. Bursting with citrus aromas, starfruit and quince notes, plus an acidity so energetic the whole glass practically vibrates with it, it’s uplifting and palate-cleansing, revealing complexities all the way through the seemingly endless finish.
Brut Nature means there’s no sugar added during the secondary fermentation. This method yields bone-dry Champagnes: exceptionally fresh and crisp bottles that channel their terroir with focus and precision.
The Mangin et Fils estate sits on the limestone- and chalk-laden hills of Leuvrigny and Moussy, two villages renowned for their Pinot Meunier. Despite making up roughly a third of Champagne’s plantings, the variety was long overshadowed by Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, the other two members of Champagne’s trinity. For decades, Meunier growers in the Marne Valley—like Mangin et Fils—sold their grapes to the big houses for blending.
Yet with the more recent rise of grower-producers, these estates have realized that what they’ve been selling off has been fresh, aromatic gold. The variety is generally earthier and rounder than Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, and when grown with greatness in mind, that character pops out against a sturdy backbone of acidity.
Four generations of the Mangin family have been farming their ten hectares of Meunier. In this Brut Nature, they’ve captured the variety in all its vibrancy, depth, and glory.
