A Delicious, Rule-Breaking Rosé
Make the best rosé possible in Prosecco: Alice’s goal was simple, and the result is sensational. But it’s not Prosecco.
That’s because, in order to get the gorgeous spice, depth, and color into this wine, Cinzia stepped outside of Prosecco protocol and added 10% Marzemino. Legally, Prosecco can include up to 15% of local grape varieties (in addition to at least 85% Glera), but Marzemino isn’t on the list—even though it was Mozart’s favorite. Therefore, this rosé bubbly is not, strictly speaking, a Prosecco. You could call it a “Super Prosecco,” Alice’s answer to the standard-defying wines of Tuscany and Friuli that have redefined quality in those regions.
This is a complex Italian beauty that bucks everything you thought you knew about sparkling wine from Italy. It’s the perfect all-occasions bubbly, and one that will leave you and your loved ones satisfied all through spring and summer. Don’t miss this incredibly unique wine—especially at the phenomenal price of just $22 per bottle.
The Le Vigne De Alice Ose Vino Spumante Brut Italy thrilled us from the moment we popped the cork. Pale copper-ruby in color, it’s got a highly expressive nose of fresh and macerated cherries, white peach, salvia, and apple blossoms, with hints of balsam and leather. Forward and juicy on the palate with a rounded, fleshy texture, it shows gorgeous cherry and apricot fruit flavors cut through with refreshing lemony acidity that leaves the mouth watering through the finish.
Winemaker Cinzia Canzian’s expertise comes from over 20 years working for her husband’s winery and the Prosecco consortium. In 2004 she broke off to start her own label, Alice, which now stands as perhaps the most exciting Prosecco (and not-quite-Prosecco) producer in Italy.
Sourced from 40-year-old vines on lean, chalky, mineral-rich soils at the base of the Dolomites, the grapes enjoy fantastic concentration and character due to the excellent hillside drainage. They’re hand-harvested before being fermented in stainless steel, then earning beautiful richness on the lees for 60 days before the second fermentation in tank.
What goes into the bottle is one of the most unique and delicious Italian bubblies we’ve had in a long time. Your mood will brighten just like ours did as soon as the copper-colored elixir hits the glass—and elevate with every scintillating sip.
