The Ritz’s Loss Is Your Gain

The Barons de Rothschild NV Brut has been nothing less than a sensation among Wine Access members. With hundreds of cases tucked away in cellars and a 4.6-star-average review—which puts it ahead of Cristal in our members’ affections—it’s become a defining wine of the last few years.

So what’s better than a member-favorite Champagne? Big bottles of it.

We’ve been hunting for magnums of the Rothschilds’ finest bubbles—and the Paris Ritz’s house Champagne—since our first offer sold out. Time and time again we were told there weren’t any available…until recently, when the famed hotel couldn’t take their entire allocation and we swooped in to save the day for our importer.

When the Rothschild family sets out to make a wine, they aim to create an icon, and they achieve it with this exquisite Brut. Pale golden with pinpoint bubbles, crisp and clean on the palate, bursting with freshly cut apples and a complex underpinning of roasted hazelnut and toast, it’s the Champagne quality you'd expect from the family behind First Growths Lafite and Mouton Rothschild and California legend Opus One.

The Ritz Label Brut consists of 60% Chardonnay from Grand- and Premier Cru vineyards in the Côte des Blancs, supplemented with 40% Pinot Noir from the Grand Cru villages of Verzenay, Aÿ, and Ambonnay, as well as the Premier Cru village of Mareuil-sur-Aÿ. Up to 40% reserve wine adds to the Champagne’s striking depth of character.

The Rothschild name is synonymous with quality, no matter where they choose to make their wine. From one of the most storied regions of France and one of the most revered families in wine, this is a celebration in itself. Don’t miss it.
