A Weeknight at the Ritz
When guests sit down for pastries and Champagne at the Salon Proust in Paris’ world-famous Hotel Ritz, it’s the Barons de Rothschild bubbly in their glasses.
But we’re bringing the Hotel Ritz to you, in a clean and silken Blanc de Blancs masterwork from one of the world’s most acclaimed wine families. This is an aristocratic First Growth-quality bubbly, served at a price that can make any night of the week feel like a private soirée at Salon Proust.
When the Rothschild family sets out to make a wine, they aim to craft an icon. Combined, the family’s estates are responsible for numerous 100-point bottles. Their very name is synonymous with winemaking prestige, and collectors salivate at its mere mention. This exquisite Blanc de Blancs carries that same esteem, gracing tables at prestigious hotels and Michelin-starred restaurants around the world.
We first tasted this bubbly as an apéritif during a serendipitous visit to Château Lafite Rothschild, and it immediately stole the show. A mélange of green apple, marzipan, sliced almond, and yellow flower aromas vault from the glass, demanding every bit of your attention. The palate deftly balances on a tightrope of silken fruit and piercing minerality, juggling Asian pear, brioche, citrus, and toasted nuts. Even after the delicious tarte flambée and lobster soufflé hit the table, we kept looking forward to round two of the Blanc de Blancs.
The Rothschilds are as selective about their winemaking ventures as anyone on Earth. The family struck their Champagne alliance in 2003, when they found that they were all drinking Champagne on a daily basis, and decided to pool their resources and limitless winemaking savoir-faire into producing a Champagne worthy of the Rothschild name.
Dedicated to superlative quality, the family is just as rigorously selective about their source vineyards. That’s why this generous cuvée contains 100% Chardonnay from the finest Côte des Blancs Grand Crus—Avize, Cramant, Mesnil-sur-Oger, and Oger—whose highly-coveted chalky soils produce some of the region’s most celebrated Champagnes. The wine undergoes at least four years of cellar aging, and with reserve wines making up a minimum of 40% of the blend, the result is a Blanc de Blancs with extraordinary depth and grace.
From one of the most storied regions of France and one of the most revered families in wine, this is a celebration in itself.
