Silver Ghost is the Cabernet that ignited our obsession—and the 2023 is a banger, thanks to top sources and a stunning vintage. It’s early, but the case for the glorious 2023 season being one of the best of this decade is growing stronger.

“I've been making wine for over a decade and have never experienced such hang time,” Weston told us, over a glass of the ‘23. “We achieved optimal ripeness, with amazing color, phenolic maturity, and acidity.” This bottle comes from three spectacular sources in Oakville, Yountville, and the cool Sugarloaf area—blue-chip Napa Valley vineyards that often provide grapes for triple-digit-priced Cabernets.

Now for the story to share with your friends: The name “Silver Ghost” is a reference to the 1909 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost, the favorite car of John Montagu, Eidson’s great-grandfather. Montagu was a British Lord, a member of Parliament, and an early pioneer in the automobile industry. Montagu even picked the model whose form adorns the “Spirit of Ecstasy,” Rolls-Royce’s iconic hood ornament. 

Fortunately, Eidson took cues from the quality of Rolls-Royce, NOT the price. Napa Cabernet of this level does not come around often for this price, especially from a young winemaker of such excellent pedigree.
