2023 Ethereo Albarino Rias Baixas 750 ml

One night in Madrid, we had a revelation.

We were wrapping up a work trip to all the “big” red and fortified wine regions. Rioja to Ribera del Duero to Jerez. When we walked into the tapas bar, we were ready for something different. 

We ordered nearly one of everything on the seafood-centric menu: grilled shrimp, steamed clams, olive oil-preserved tuna, boquerones on toast with parsley. A big red wouldn’t do.

The waiter gave us a wink, and soon it appeared: Albariño from Ethereo. Tropical and super-expressive, it brought another dimension to the meal. It wasn't just a minerally, salty tapas-bar white to cleanse the palate between bites—it brought distinctive, bold fruit and floral notes. 

From the warmest and driest of the Rias Biaxas subzones, Ethereo Albariño is full of personality. It’s made by Bodegas Eidosela, located just a few miles from the Portugal border in the Condado do Tea subregion of Rias Baixas. This warmer zone is home to exuberant, tropical, and dense Albariños that differ a little from those found by the sea in Salnés, but still maintain superb minerality and freshness thanks to these granite and slate soils.

This wine, which boasts 95 points from the Decanter World Wine Awards, has a lively fruit quality that a Sauvignon Blanc lover will recognize, all the while retaining its zippy acidity and granitic undertones. If you like Italian white wines or Chablis, you will love this wine. It’s perfect for ceviche, salads, grilled oysters, roasted corn, and beyond. You’ll drink through yours quicker than you think!
