    Brochard Elevates their Game

Domaine Hubert Brochard makes our top-selling Sancerre of this decade. But despite the winery’s impressive rating and scores of Notify Me requests, we’ve never had the chance to offer one of their outstanding single-site bottlings—until we scored the 2023 Château de Thauvenay Sancerre.

Hailing from the gorgeous vineyards that surround the Loire Valley’s historic Château de Thauvenay, this was grown on vines with an average age of 30 years planted on chalky clay-limestone marl from the Kimmeridgian period, this a round yet racy, mineral-rich, terroir-transparent Sauvignon Blanc that shows why the Sancerre appellation is famous.

With roots in Sancerre going back six generations, Domaine Hubert Brochard has assembled a staggering wealth of prime vineyards. From their 83 hectares spread over seven villages, they produce the village Sancerre that has smashed records at Wine Access, becoming our #1 Sancerre of all time.

But white-wine lovers know that single-site Sancerres take it up a few levels, and Brochard’s are gorgeous. This one is sourced solely from the vineyards that surround the Loire Valley’s historic Château de Thauvenay, near the Loire Canal. This site features soils from the Kimmeridgian era, rich in the chalky clay-marl that’s prized in the region. It’s also HVE environmental certified (High Environmental Value), which recognizes production processes that minimize the pressure on the environment, in terms of soil, water, and even biodiversity.

For the Château de Thauvenay bottling, the grapes were harvested by hand and by machine, then pressed in pneumatic presses. The vinification took place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, and the wine was bottled in June after harvest.

Now rich and racy and buzzing with energy, this is a leveled-up Sancerre from our #1 producer. Enjoy.
