Relationships Give Vineyard Access That Can’t Be Bought

Top vineyard pedigree. Limited production. Old World winemaking.

Back when he was planning vineyards and pruning vines for some of the most iconic properties in California—names like Opus One, Cakebread, Duckhorn, Stags Leap—Tom Meadowcroft dreamed of founding his own project based on these principles. To say that his connections have come in handy is the understatement of the year.

His supple, seductive 2022 Meadowcroft Pinot Noir Anderson Valley is sourced chiefly from a vineyard north of Boonville that THE big names in Pinot Noir tap to the tune of bottles hefting $60–$130 price tags. Our tiny allocation—which met with an enthusiastic thumbs-up from our tasting panel—comes at a fraction of that.

Meadowcroft’s long relationships with small growers and his nose for great sites means he can score some of the best Pinot Noir grapes in Northern California. Anderson Valley’s rolling hills, huge diurnal temperature shifts, and long growing season ripen grapes to rich lushness while allowing them to retain fantastic vibrancy. Only about 25 barrels of this Pinot were made, and it was aged in perfectly judged, 30% new French and American oak, which provide a hint of vanilla and plenty of texture.

It’s just the kind of sweet-fruited, round, and fresh Pinot Noir we watch Wine Access members regularly lavish rave reviews on, and it wears its sourcing on its sleeve. The wealth of blackberry fruit, chervil and kola nuts, and lovely floral aromatics all hint at prime Pinot real estate.

Bright, joyful, and lively, it’s lush, elegant, and alluring—and it delivers unheard-of prestige for your dollar.
