A Show of Prodigious TalentJosh Phelps has landed on both Forbes’ 30 Under 30 and Wine Enthusiast’s 40 Under 40 lists, so it’s no wonder he’s set a new bar for accessibility and excellence with Grounded Wine Co. Crafted with fruit from four biodynamically farmed vineyards, his 2022 Landform is a silky, sophisticated romp through three of Oregon’s premier Pinot Noir AVAs.

Josh Phelps was born to make knockout wines.

He grew up assisting his dad in the cellars of California cult-wine icons and legendary French estates, plus he’s landed on both Forbes’ 30 Under 30 AND Wine Enthusiast’s 40 Under 40 lists. But he didn’t stop there.

Now, he’s setting a new bar for accessibility and excellence with Grounded Wine Co.—and with Landform, he’s delivered a silky, sophisticated romp through Oregon’s most esteemed Pinot AVAs.

“Dangerously easy to drink and well crafted”: That’s how Wine Advocate summarized this Pinot’s inaugural vintage, and this 2022 shows that Phelps has gained even more mastery over the variety in the three years since. A brilliant ruby pour releases ample aromas of cranberry, raspberry, red apple, black tea, and spices, while a sip delivers elegant notes of cola, cocoa, cedar, and citrus rind on bright acid and supple tannins.

Phelps sourced this wine from four biodynamically farmed vineyards in three of Oregon’s top AVAs for premium Pinot: Eola-Amity Hills, Chehalem Mountains, and Yamhill-Carlton. Eola-Amity Hills is known for bright acidity and delicate aromatics, which balance delightfully with Yamhill-Carlton’s plush fruit and Chehalem Mountains’ earthiness and structure.

In 2022, Phelps’s Willamette Valley harvest was extraordinary. He destemmed his tiny clusters before treating them to whole-berry fermentation and aging in stainless steel and neutral oak barrels—preserving the fruit purity of his excellent vineyard sources. The result is a captivating show of a great vintage.
