2022 Domaine Cordier Pere et Fils Jean de la Vigne Bourgogne Blanc 750 ml

The outside of Domaine Cordier’s Jean de la Vigne simply says “Bourgogne Blanc.” 

That does not do justice to what’s inside. 

This white Burgundy from Christophe Cordier—who Wine Spectator called a “miracle worker” and Robert Parker called a “hero”—actually hails from a single ten-acre parcel in the village of Leyens. That’s just south of Fuissé, one of the Mâcon’s prime spots for Chardonnay. 

No surprise then that the 2022 Jean de la Vigne delivers all you could ask for in top-tier white Burgundy—spirited elegance, laser-like focus, nuanced complexity. 

This wine’s beautiful purity derives from winemaker Christophe Cordier’s meticulous approach, which begins with biodynamic farming in the vineyard and hand-harvesting perfectly ripe Chardonnay grapes. In the cellar, he fermented the 2022 using only indigenous yeast, aged it on the lees to bring out a hint of nutty complexity, and bottled it unfined and unfiltered. He also uses larger oak barrels, very few of which are new, to allow for the development of texture without any intrusive wood flavors.

In a rich, bountiful white-Burgundy vintage like 2022, which saw the earliest harvest in the Mâconnais since 2003, this bottle is an absolute gem. MICHELIN-starred Aquavit in NYC once paired this bottling with scallops and endive, where its Meyer lemon notes stand as a perfect foil for the saline sweetness of the shellfish.
