The last vintage of Albert Bichot’s C’est La Vie earned a Best Buy designation from Wine Enthusiast, and this edition is tasting even better. From a Wine Access member-favorite Burgundy producer, this rosé greets you with a seductive aromatic mixture of red berries, melon rind, soft green herbs, and sea salt, then segues into an easygoing palate brimming with fruit and an appealing spiciness that demands another glass. It’s the kind of wine you want to drink all day long.
Few deliver value in French wine like Albert Bichot—little wonder, when you consider the pedigree of the family. With ancestors residing in Burgundy since the 14th century and producing wine since 1831, quality and longevity are synonymous with the Bichot name. The current generation, led by Albéric Bichot, continues to innovate and push the envelope on quality.
C'est La Vie hails from vineyards the Bichots carefully sourced in the Languedoc—a stellar place to make this style of wine. Born just to the west of Provence, it’s a bottle that offers plenty of the mouthwatering rosé character you expect in wines from that famous region but without the often-hefty price tag.
We tasted a tank sample of this wine chez Bichot on a gray Burgundy day, and we could have sworn the room got brighter when we took a sip. Now that the sun is arriving, we’ve got dreams of sipping this alongside some panisse Provençale on the back porch as the sun sets languorously and we decide that yes, another bottle sounds perfect.
