Pahlmeyer’s Wayfarer Is “Clearly Firing on all Cylinders”
Wayfarer is so improbable.
It starts with a perfectly exposed, remote site in the Coast Range—the same kind that moved David Hirsch to create Hirsch Vineyard and Helen Turley to plant Marcassin Vineyard nearby.
Add a palette of the finest Chardonnay clones, planted by David Abreu (which include a number of small-berried California heritage selections), plus the passion and fanaticism of Jayson Pahlmeyer and his daughter Cleo. When all of these factors fall into place, the results are truly works of art.
And in 2021—one of the best vintages ever for California Chardonnay—Pahlmeyer’s Wayfarer produced one of the greatest wines of the year.
Their estate-grown Wayfarer Vineyard Chard earned 98 points from both James Suckling and Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, who raved about its incredible density, rich texture, and “epically long finish.”
The chorus of praise is as broad as it is strong: Lisa Perrotti-Brown—most recently Editor in Chief at Wine Advocate—declared: “In 2021, the [Wayfarer] vineyard was clearly firing on all cylinders. These are some of the finest Pinots and Chardonnays coming out of Sonoma."
