Alone at the Top of the Charts
At Wine Access, there’s no other Sauvignon Blanc referred to simply as THE Sauvignon Blanc. That’s because there’s never been a better-selling Sauvignon Blanc in our entire history: There’s just Tinpot Hut, alone at the top of the charts.
But this year, there’s no way 2021 will repeat that feat.
From a vintage that Master of Wine and doyenne of British wine critics Jancis Robinson called “perfectly formed”—before warning of “likely shortages” due to a minuscule crop—there’s only half as much available as we usually get to offer.
This wine goes beyond overachiever—but you already knew that. Wine Access members have long expressed their devotion to Tinpot Hut: One called it “everything a Sauvignon Blanc should be,” while another wrote, “I have bought it three times now.” Celebrity chef Jamie Oliver has made it a staple at home, telling the winery “love your wine, always have some in the cellar.”
The 2021 growing season was extremely kind to the small crop of grapes in Marlborough, and particularly to owner and winemaker Fiona Turner’s Home Block Vineyard in the Blind River subregion. There, dry conditions and moderate temperatures throughout the season concentrated the Sauvignon Blanc, allowing it to develop an extra jolt of citrus burst alongside Chablis-like elegance.
In short, the 2021 vintage is one of our all-time favorites of this standard-bearing New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. Make sure you savor every drop.
