The product of a stupendous vintage and an all-time member-favorite winery—long guided by the recently passed, notoriously detail-oriented Roberto Cavalli—the 2021 Le Redini shows off the kind of quality-to-price ratio we rarely see in the Super Tuscan category.

Tenuta Degli Dei enjoys privileged terroir in Tuscany’s famed Conca d’Oro, the “Golden Basin'' that's home to some of Chianti’s most iconic wines. Their Le Redini combines a bold, Right Bank suaveness with a hint of the wild Italian countryside into a seductive red we can’t get enough of. Vinous called it “a gorgeous, beguiling wine,” and it earned a chorus of critical praise across the board.

This ruby gem, made from Merlot and Alicante, is absolutely hitting its stride after three years from the vintage. In another few years this will be one of the sappiest, most drinkable Tuscan reds in your cellar—one whose price your guests won’t believe (and don’t have to know).

Roberto Cavalli was a world-famous fashion designer who had been coming to this picturesque Tuscan village—a stone’s throw from the stunning Romanesque parish church in San Leolino—since the early 1970s. He eventually bought the breathtaking estate, which came with a small vineyard that was in complete disrepair. In 2000, his son Tommaso Cavalli set about planting the vineyard anew.

Roberto may not have known it at first, but he had stumbled across a genuine viticultural goldmine. The estate is located in the heart of Tuscany’s iconic Conca d’Oro, or “Golden Basin.” This amphitheater-like cradle near Panzano is seemingly custom-made for grape growing, and in 2021, this iconic Tuscan terroir delivered in spades.
