2021 Site Wines Syrah Bien Nacido Vineyard Santa Maria Valley 750 ml

This wine hails from Bien Nacido, one of the greatest vineyards in the New World, and it stands with the best Syrahs made in California and the Rhône. Showing a deep, dark, and dense magenta/ruby core, it’s driven by dark fruit with tones of blackberry, cassis, cracked pepper on plums, and black cherry. It’s rich and rounded on the palate, with full-bodied silkiness and seductiveness and a long, spicy finish. 

Owned and operated by Jeremy Weintraub­­—the former Seavey (Napa) and current Adelaida (Paso Robles) winemaker—Site’s objective is to explore a trio of world-class vineyards: Bien Nacido, Larner, and Stolpman. Jeremy lets the terroir and vintage dictate the style, without any dogma or preconceptions. It’s a philosophy that has landed his wines in regular rotation at spots like The French Laundry, SingleThread, Meadowood, and Lazy Bear.

The cool-climate Bien Nacido Vineyard was named one of the “Top 25 Vineyards in the World” by Wine & Spirits and included among the “Top Five California Vineyards” by the Wall Street Journal. It’s got few—maybe no—equals in the pantheon of Santa Barbara County sites. 

The vineyard’s elevation, loamy soil, and ocean-controlled mild temperatures form a cradle that heightens the Syrah’s broad-shouldered concentration, as the cool climate tightens the tension and energy that are crucial to the grape.
