    A Rare Combination in Burgundy

Just 50 cases of the 2021 Douhairet-Porcheret’s Pommard Premier Cru Les Chanlins made it to the States. Brought in by Martine’s Wines—one of the most esteemed importers of Burgundy in the US—it’s a tiny amount, especially considering how restaurants like Eleven Madison Park, SF’s Angler, and Napa’s La Toque are all eager to snap up their allocations of these exquisite Pinot Noirs.

Douhairet-Porcheret rose to fame under André Porcheret, the genius vigneron who Lalou-Bize Leroy tapped to be the original winemaker for Domaine Leroy. Their 2021 Pommard Premier Cru Les Chanlins, made by Porcheret’s granddaughter and grown on a tiny one-acre patch of Premier Cru vines in one of the estate’s top vintages, practically took our breath away.

The nose alone is electric: A classic Pommard mix of black cherry and sous-bois leap from the bowl, all swirling together with rose petals and exotic spices. The mouthfeel is so seductive and concentrated. What power, elegance, and charisma is in this glass!

Cataldina Lippo, André Porcheret’s granddaughter, studied at his side before taking over winemaking duties with her husband, Vincent Monfort, in 2004. Since then, the couple has infused the cellar with a new sense of dynamism. Burgundy Report once declared their lineup “the most impressive set of wines that I tasted from any new name”—and the Pommard Les Chanlins is one of their star bottlings.

Les Chanlins is one of our favorite Premier Crus in Pommard. Located on the border with Volnay, its limestone-heavy soils combine Pommard’s power with Volnay’s trademark elegance to make Pinot Noir with a perfect combination of grace and intensity.
