    We Love a Win-Win

We love a win-win, especially when one of the “wins” tastes so great.

Matt Iaconis and his wife Alexis created Delta wines in 2018, driven by a passion for the environment and a desire to effect a meaningful change within the wine industry. Delta is not just a winery, but also a fundraising vehicle for the Earth. The couple completely offset the carbon footprint of their winery, and to date have contributed over $75,000 to causes like the Surfrider Foundation, a charity for the oceans, and Cool Effect, a carbon-footprint reduction organization.

Delta’s sister winery, Brick & Mortar, is also owned and run by Matt, who was bound for another field—aeronautics—until an elective class at UC Davis piqued his interest in wine. He was hooked. He honed his skills at Piero Antinori’s Antica Napa Valley estate, and he’s since left his mark in Australia, New Zealand, Italy, and France. But it was a summer in Burgundy that cemented his commitment to cool-climate, terroir-driven, European-inspired wines, and in 2011, Brick & Mortar was born.

Matt’s philosophy of crafting wines with moderate alcohol and bright acidity applies perfectly to Pinot Noir, as does his “secret” of hands-off winemaking, a technique rooted in patience. “Less is more,” he says. “Nowadays, while I maintain the wine, I do almost nothing once the wine hits the barrel, and minimal prior to that. I try to ensure the fruit is of the highest quality entering the winery, and stay out of the way from there.”

Our tasting panel flipped for the 2021 Delta Pinot Noir, which was drawn from multiple sites throughout California. It’s a fabulous Pinot that is going to leave you wanting another sip!
