We went to bid on some of the most precious wines in the world. We left with something far more valuable—and important.

We first met the NBA's Josh Hart in July 2019, at Napa Valley’s WineaPAWlooza auction. Bonding with Josh over Bordeaux, we were struck by how knowledgeable and curious he was about wine, which he’d been turned on to by his former teammate LeBron James.

Later that year, we had a kickoff dinner with Josh and his friends prior to the first game of the season. Safe to say we became fast friends with Josh—and now we’ve made a world-class Cabernet with him.

For the 2021 Bank Shot Cabernet, we paired Josh up with Maayan Koschitzky, the prodigious talent who serves as Director of Winemaking for Philippe Melka’s Atelier Melka. The result is a serious Napa Valley Cabernet, grown in St. Helena, Howell Mountain, and Oakville in the gorgeous 2021 vintage. Bearing a label that pays homage to Bordeaux, boasting aromas of black fruit, vanilla bean, chocolate, and currants, it’s full-bodied yet beautifully balanced.

We’re also extremely proud that in 2020, we launched a Diversity in Wine Scholarship with Josh. The program sponsored 100 aspiring wine professionals from underrepresented groups to take the WSET Level 1 course, with top performers moving along in the program. The top three students earned an unforgettable trip to Napa Valley with Josh.

The program was a huge success, and the profits from Bank Shot will go to benefit it. For us and for Josh, it’s the perfect way to welcome more deserving professionals into the world of wine.
