Rock-Solid Napa Buy: “I Am Amazed and Impressed.”

Every year, we try to get more of this Napa bombshell. Every year, whatever we get isn’t enough.

Rich, powerful, and extravagantly concentrated, the Titus Andronicus Red Wine is one of our all-time most-popular Napa red blends. Similar to The Prisoner in its voluptuousness, crafted by legendary 100-point winemaker Phil Titus, this is a sell-out we can practically set our watch by.

Phil and his brother Eric are two of the most gracious and talented guys you’ll meet. Phil’s engineered a three-decade run of critically acclaimed wines at Chappellet, with his Cabs routinely fetching scores of 97 points or more. Eric, a former president of the Napa Valley Grape Growers Association, is a brilliant vineyard manager who holds a doctorate in biology. Together with their father, Lee, the Tituses have helped shape the St. Helena AVA into the standard-bearer it is today.

For the 2020 Titus Andronicus, the brothers worked with winemaker Stephan Cruzan—a veteran of Cade, Chappellet, and Hall—to balance six classic grape varieties from different appellations. The wine is dominated by Merlot and Cab, with about 30% of each, Malbec accounting for about 20%, and Petite Sirah and Cab Franc sprinkled in to round out the blend.

We had to give this stunning bottling its own folder to organize all the four- and five-star reviews it’s collected over the past couple vintages, cementing its position as one of our most popular reds. “One of my all-time faves!” raved one member. “I buy a case every time it is offered,” said another. A third said, “I am amazed and impressed.”

Finished with 19 months of barrel aging, this is the epitome of a luscious and immediately drinkable Napa red.
