2020 Sun Goddess by Mary J Blige Sauvignon Friuli 750 ml

Our VP of Wine, Eduardo Dingler, was fresh off the plane from a recent trip to Friuli in northeast Italy, where he had tasted dozens of spectacular, mouthwatering wines. Little did he know that one of the greatest values in Sauvignon Blanc—from one of the most exciting wine regions in Italy—was about to fall into his lap right here in Napa.

The night after he got back, he joined a sommelier friend for dinner, who poured him a big glass of shimmering, golden-cored wine. Eduardo swirled it, took in the aromas, then took a sip. 

Immediately notes of citrus and limestone woke up his palate. The wine bloomed with notes of chamomile and jasmine, carried on a lively backbone of acidity that faded over a long finish. Eduardo couldn’t hide his enthusiasm. “This is fantastic,” he said. “I’ve got to know what it is.” 

His friend returned from the kitchen and revealed the bottle: It was the 2020 Sun Goddess Sauvignon Blanc, and it hails from Friuli. Eduardo was dumbfounded. He’d gone halfway around the world to find a great Friulian wine, and here it was, right in his buddy’s backyard!

This Sauv Blanc has a fantastic lineage: It’s a partnership between singer Mary J. Blige—who you might have caught at this year’s Super Bowl halftime show—and Marco Fantinel, proprietor of and winemaker for Fantinel Winery, an acclaimed third-generation producer in Friuli-Venezia-Giulia. 

The result is the kind of delectable wine that put Friulian Sauvignon Blanc on the map. We’re thrilled with it, and you’re going to be too—it’s as simple as that.
