Amar’e Keeps It Kosher
The last time we saw our friend Kamal was at his favorite beachfront hotel in Santa Barbara, on one of those Southern California days that make you feel like the sun must be shining down on the whole world. We found him sitting at one of the patio tables watching the waves, a crisp Simón Espinal hat perched on his head, and a dewy glass of the 2020 Stoudemire Clarity Rosé in his glass.
“Try this,” he said, and handed us a pale salmon-colored glass as we walked up. We took a big inhale—the nose was a cornucopia of mixed berry aromas, raspberry, strawberry, loganberry, and huckleberry, with an underlying hint of violets—and then a sip. Juicy and mouthwatering flavors of red berries and watermelon built to a mouthwatering crescendo, and the dry finish had our palates primed for another taste.
It had been a year since we’d been out of the country, but the sunshine, the scene, and especially the delicious rosé took us straight to Aix-en-Provence, straight to Bandol, straight to the South of France.
“Amar’e strikes again?” we asked him, as we held out our glass.
He reached out and clinked ours, finally cracking a smile. “Amar’e strikes again.”
At six-foot-ten and with an NBA Rookie of the Year award and six All-Star appearances under his belt, Amar’e Stoudemire is the definition of exceptional… but we still feel like he’s one of us. The former hardwood star is an ever-curious renaissance man who is always on the move, and no matter where he is on the globe—and here’s the part we really identify with—he’s always on the lookout for incredible wine.
It was only a matter of time before Amar’e became a vintner himself. He made his first wines in Israel, a land to which he feels a deep connection to because of his Jewish roots. He’s a citizen of both Israel and the United States, so when he decided he was going to make a wine in his native country, he went straight to California. He partnered with the renowned Herzog family, to avail himself of their eight generations of winemaking expertise and achieve his goal of being the first Black Kosher winemaker.
Headquartered on California’s Central Coast, the family tapped their extensive vineyard relationships to secure grapes from Clarksburg. Located east of San Francisco, it’s one of the highest-value regions in the state, known for its maritime climate that infuses the grapes with the kind of verve that define the great rosés of the world… and this one is kosher, so it’s the perfect accompaniment for any and all gatherings.
This is a wine that belongs in a seaside scene, and one you’ll love having in your glass, no matter where you are. We’re thrilled to be a part of Amar’e’s pioneering wine journey, and can’t wait for you to join us.
