Four Generations of Skill in One Bottle
Nestled in a natural amphitheater that cradles both vines and tradition, the Rocca family has quietly crafted outstanding Nebbiolo for four generations.
Winemaker Giancarlo Rocca tends these coveted vines just steps from his family home, built by his ancestors who recognized the special character of this site. Yet despite its pedigree and persistent excellence, this Barbaresco remains one of Piedmont's hidden treasures. It's a wine that aficionados whisper about, share with their closest friends, and cellar with knowing smiles
The Ronchi cru's privileged position captures optimal sunlight, allowing Nebbiolo to achieve ideal ripeness while maintaining the fine balance that marks great Barbaresco—and it forms the backbone of their 2020 Barbaresco.
This prized vineyard sits between two renowned neighbors: Montestefano to the north and Moccagatta to the south. The 2020 Ronchi Barbaresco deftly combines attributes of both sites, displaying Montestefano's complexity and refined tannins alongside Moccagatta's silken texture and captivating aromatics. Add in fruit from Gaia Principe, near Neive, which is one of Barbaresco’s leading vineyards and you have a recipe for a beautiful wine that’s drinking well right now.
That’s thanks in part to the 2020 vintage, which is already celebrated throughout Piedmont. It was a warm vintage that produced supple tannins and silky fruit—with no lack of depth. Wines like this shine especially brightly, elevating normale bottlings to cru quality. Add in native-yeast fermentation to build complexity and a traditional elevage in Slavonian botti for two full years and you end up with a hidden gem of the Piedmont, perfect for pairing with fresh pasta tossed with sage, butter, and parmesan.
