A Perfectionist Meets the Perfect Vineyard

California grapegrower Andy Beckstoffer presides over some of the most coveted vineyard land in the world. Most distinguished among his 1,000 acres are his Heritage Vineyards: six historic plots that boast unparalleled history and provenance—and generate unmatched demand among vintners.

The Beckstoffer Georges III Vineyard, once known as Beaulieu Vineyard Number 3, was purchased by Andy Beckstoffer in 1988. He promptly set about replanting, putting in a new set of clones with tighter spacing and a much better trellising system, which means today the vineyard is producing even better fruit than it did in its heyday for BV in the 1960s and 1970s.

Myriad Cellars is the personal label of Mike Smith and his wife, Leah. Smith began his career in 1999 with none other than Thomas Rivers Brown and contributed to early successes at luminaries like Schrader, Rivers Marie, Maybach Family, and Outpost. Twenty-five years later, Smith is the winemaker for Carter Cellars in Calistoga, among numerous others, and can claim a hand in 24 perfect 100-point scores—not to mention the most 100-point scores awarded by Wine Advocate in a single vintage!

It’s Smith’s fanatical attention to detail that makes all the difference in his wines. We’re honored to present you this edition from the Beckstoffer Georges III Vineyard. Boasting a plethora of black fruit, ranging from damson plum to blackberry jam and currants, the nose is also lifted by layers of licorice, cedar, toasted baking spices, leather, and clove. The full-bodied palate shines, revealing rich tones of cocoa-dusted dark cherries accented by notes of laurel. It’s a truly gorgeous wine.
