Village Price, Premier Cru Pedigree, Grand Cru Quality
Years of tasting have taught us that the village of Pernand-Vergelesses is a GOLD MINE for white Burgundy values—and its Premier Cru “En Caradeux,” which sits just across from the legendary Grand Cru Corton-Charlemagne, is an ace in the hole. With Premier Cru Meursaults and Chassagne-Montrachets routinely topping $150+, this punches WAY above its price tag.
Our members love the vivid, focused white wines of Louis Latour, and are not alone. This storied house currently boasts SIX placements on MICHELIN 3-Star The French Laundry’s White Burgundy list.
Latour’s own Corton-Charlemagne goes for $200+, but is grown just across the road from this gorgeous, concentrated bottle. In a vintage Wine Advocate rated 97 points and called “Extraordinary,” it’s an outright steal.
We can’t think of a more affordable way to experience the savory, flinty, citrusy magic of the Hill of Corton than this remarkably underpriced “insider’s” Premier Cru. Even James Suckling once wondered aloud, “Why isn’t this appellation taken more seriously?” Personally, we think it’s because it’s hard to pronounce. But you won’t have to order this off a wine list, and that just means more Per-NAN Ver-JHUH-less to go around for us.
