Oakville Déjà Vu in a Bottle

At just two miles wide, Oakville’s not a big AVA. It is also, arguably, the best place in the world to grow Cabernet Sauvignon. That’s a big reason why we consider Durant & Booth’s 2020 Oakville Cabernet—crafted by Raymond winemaker Stephanie Putnam and consultant Philippe Melka, packed with Oakville’s telltale crème de cassis and American oak tones of vanilla and baking spices—a ringer for a famous wine that’s indispensable to the American steakhouse.

Jean-Charles Boisset knew that his wine selection at Oakville Grocery, right next door to Opus One, would not be complete without his own bespoke Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon. The flamboyant showman of Napa Valley was uncharacteristically tight-lipped about the vineyard source for this wine when we tasted with him, and just one taste told us why. This was clearly expensive fruit, and he made out like a bandit bottling it under his own label.

Durant & Booth’s Bourbon Barrel Cabernet was a breakaway hit with you last year, with a 4.21 member rating, and flavors that moved folks to write things like “Holy moly…What a great bottle of ripe big fruit, round and long in the mouth with a perfect balance of acidity throughout a lengthy finish! Big, brash and drop dead delicious.”

We’re confident you’re going to love the Oakville wine even more. It’s packed with aromas of black cherry, plum, cassis, and graphite, along with a healthy dose of violet, anise, and a kiss of vanilla. The mouthfeel is so lush and satisfying, with plenty of spice and fruit with excellent rich tannin which evolves into a long-lasting finish.
