“Always High-Quality Wines Worth Seeking”
Grab a bottle with an iconic label, you’ll likely pay an icon-level price. Grab a bottle with an icon behind the label, and you might just find a steal that will make you want to pack away multiple cases.
Need an example? Check out the Domaine La Grangette Saint Joseph Côtes du Rhône from Alain Jaume.
This bottle has everything we’re looking for in a drink-anytime Côtes du Rhône: It’s vibrant and lush, bursting with warm plum and cherry accented by the Rhône’s telltale garrigue, and it shows a level of quality that comes as no surprise when you consider the name behind the label.
Jaume is an iconic Rhône domaine whose Domaine Grand Veneur Châteauneuf-du-Pape has earned a perfect 100-point score from Robert Parker himself (who described the wine as “monumental”) While Jaume makes the Grand Veneur wines from estate fruit, Grangette is a négociant label that sources grapes from trusted growers. The Grenache-dominant 2019 Grangette Côtes du Rhône comes from grapes grown in the foothills of Mont Ventoux in the Southern Rhône. There, the vines are planted in sandy-clay vineyards littered with chunks of stone that recall the round galets of Châteauneuf.
After ripening in the warm and steady Mediterranean weather, the grapes are vinified for optimum freshness and fruit-forwardness, fermenting in stainless steel tanks at a cool temperature and going into bottle eight months after harvest. The result is a front-of-cellar red that you’re going to want to open for any weeknight dinner, impromptu happy hour, or friends who drop by. Our advice: make ample room in your cellar for this delicious everyday drinker. It’s definitely one to stow away by the case.
