Yountville Pedigree, Without the Price Tag

Looking out on the Yountville source of the 2020 Clos de Napa Cabernet, it was impossible to miss the star of the neighborhood: Sleeping Lady, the spectacular hillside source to $200+ bottles from the likes of Fait-Main and Julien Fayard, sits just across Highway 29.

Our attention snapped back when our colleague Trevor Sheehan reminded us that we couldn’t name the vineyard in the offer—and opined that, given the pedigree of the site and the price we’d be able to deliver, he didn’t think anyone would mind.

If Wine Access members’ raves for his GAIT Cabernets are any indication, he’s absolutely right. Trevor’s are some of the greatest Cabernet values we’ve offered in the last few years, selling huge amounts and drawing raves. This one comes from a prime cut of Yountville and boasts a 93-point score from the tough blind-tasters at Wine & Spirits magazine, who called it “rich, robust and generous.”

Many Wine Access members know Trevor’s handiwork well. He got his start over a decade ago, and now—armed with a Rolodex of gold and a reputation for scoring “unobtainable” grapes—he rarely sources from less than the best. As such, we’ve yet to say no when he’s made us an offer.

The 2020 is a product of a vineyard in the southern tip of the Yountville AVA, blessed with stony loam soils and a cooler microclimate than elsewhere in the appellation. Wines from this area can command $100 prices—and way up from there.

Trevor’s ability to deliver Cabernets that drink like bottles that cost MULTIPLES more has made him a go-to source for us, and this bottle sums up his skill nicely. Enjoy!
