Outshining Icons and Superstars
“This wine is grown to be a world-class rosé, and that is exactly what it is,” said our Master Sommelier Sur Lucero. There’s no better way to describe this 2020 Château Miraval. A serious Provence benchmark that goes way beyond summer sipping, it’s the perfect wine to have on hand to complement a range of dishes, especially through the fall.
Château Miraval has enjoyed a level of praise that’s rare for rosé: It was one of the first rosés to crack Wine Spectator’s Top 100. It was also selected by Wine Enthusiast as one of three (out of nearly 1,000) top Provence rosés, standing with Château d’Esclans and Château Gassier wines that go for $86 and $51.
Even before Château Miraval made headlines for its affiliation with Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, the estate had some serious claims to fame: Pink Floyd recorded The Wall in the onsite studio, where Sting, Sade, and The Cranberries have also found inspiration. But now, the exceptional rosé has more than upstaged the estate’s founders and glitzy history.
Planted in protective terraced plots at around 1,150 feet of elevation, the Cinsault, Grenache, Syrah, and Rolle get a mineral element from Miraval’s clay, chalk, and limestone soils. Drawn primarily from the château’s best parcels, the grapes undergo two rigorous sortings before being vinified in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. The result is a rosé of clean, mouthwatering freshness—and a steal for such a stellar exemplar of the style.
