Rare Value for under $15

The Mourgues family’s Château Bel-Air is one of the best buys in Bordeaux, and a rare chance to drink wine made under the direction of 100-point Château Angélus legend Hubert de Boüard. As a Wine Access member, you’re one of the only Americans with a shot at it.

Full-bodied and ripe, with a classic Bordeaux personality that’s satisfying and sophisticated, the 2020 boasts a 90–91 point score from James Suckling.

This is the kind of offer that makes all the hours we spend on the road in Europe worth it, and it’s also the story of one of the most frustrating games of telephone we’ve ever played. See, there are DOZENS of different châteaux in Bordeaux bearing the Bel-Air moniker—a tribute to the Gironde’s gorgeous skies, no doubt—so when our Bordeaux-based friend John told us about a stunning new value bearing that name, we figured he’d get more specific.

But then John skipped town for the tropics, and the only text we got before he boarded his flight was to inform us that the winery doesn’t have a website. Since John’s been the source of some of our best tips over the last five years, we couldn’t let it go.

So we scoured Facebook for every Château Bel-Air we could find that didn’t have a proper website, then lined up some samples. Fast forward a few weeks, to us tasting a bevy of samples in our hotel room. Once we poured the wine we’re offering now, it became clear: This was the best Bel-Air on the block.

This wine is rather pointedly not available in the US—except here at Wine Access. Stock up while you can.
