    More Ribolla Gialla!

It took us a full seven months to lock in an allocation of the 2020 Buzzinelli Ribolla Gialla Collio, but it’s finally here, and at just $18.99, it exceeds every expectation.

Third-generation winemaker Maurizio Buzzinelli’s 2020 Ribolla Gialla is a benchmark bottling of northern Italy’s most precious white wine. Energetic and mineral, it delivers terroir-driven personality reminiscent of Premier Cru Chablis, but this is no substitute. Ribolla Gialla bottings like this are so deliciously unique that they’ve captivated sommeliers and inspired renowned winemakers like Steve Matthiasson and Dan Petroski to plant the grape on precious Napa Valley soils.

And Buzzinelli’s 2020, from the variety’s native home in Friuli, is as fine as they come. As VP of Wine Eduardo Dingler put it, “This is hands down one of my favorite wines of the year.”

From a value perspective, this outshines many of the world’s bright white wines, offering a layered complexity that under-$20 bottles rarely touch. The wild notes of the Fruilian countryside are all here, complementing incredible citrus and stone fruit vibrancy with notes of fennel, chamomile, and crushed limestone.

Even for Friuli, this stands out. Nestled in the forested hills above the Adriatic Sea, a mere ten-minute drive from the Slovenian border, the organically farmed Buzzinelli estate is located in the high-rent district for Ribolla Gialla. Here, the prized ponca soils—a mixture of clay, limestone, and seashells—deliver Ribolla with the most depth and minerality of anywhere in the world. That’s why nearby estates like Gravner and Il Carpino offer Ribolla bottlings that average $40 or more.

Among these heavyweights, Buzzinelli is a small gem offering the best of this world-class region for less than half the cost of its peers—that is, if you can get your hands on it.

Very little Buzzinelli Ribolla makes it to the states each year, but after hearing Wine Access members’ requests for more of this ethereal and ancient grape—it’s been cultivated in Friuli for nearly 1,000 years—we knew we had to make a play.

After months of knocking on doors, this stellar Ribolla is here at a price that makes stocking up the smartest move you can make. Don’t miss it.
