This Is Argentina’s New Wave
It would be tough to imagine Argentina’s modern-day renaissance without Sebastián Zuccardi—and impossible to find a greater example of his groundbreaking mission than the stunning 95-point 2019 Q Cabernet Franc.
Hailing from the land where Malbec rules, Zuccardi’s Q is chewy and floral, with concentrated layers of vibrant blackberry and cherry. With undertones of savory tarragon and herbs and a mouthwatering core of acidity, the 2019 transmits Zuccardi’s stellar Andean terroir in one gorgeous glass of red wine.
The Zuccardi family was among the earliest pioneers to tap the stunning, high-altitude vineyards of Mendoza’s Uco Valley, and the third-generation family estate has been lauded to no end. Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate called them “among the top wineries of the country,” and each year their enviable list of accolades and awards only grows longer.
Much of the credit must go to Sebastián and his vision. The grandson of the founder, Sebastian has emerged as one of Argentina’s top winemaking talents. Determined to alter the world's perception of Mendoza, he’s at the forefront of a renegade crew of winemakers who decided to eschew overly intrusive new oak in pursuit of transparent, site-specific wines that convey the Uco Valley’s mineral-rich Andean terroir.
Q hails from the Zuccardi family’s breathtaking mountain vineyards, which are planted between 3,600 and 4,500 feet above sea level in the prime areas of Paraje Altamira and San Pablo. Displaying Sebastián’s passion for terroir and his staunch belief in Cab Franc’s ability to reflect its home, the result is this astonishingly pure, dark-fruited gem that displays a different side of Argentina—and the touch of one of its exceptional talents.
