A Hall of Fame Worthy White Wine
NBA future Hall of Famer Dwyane Wade plays to win, and when it came to his 2019 Three by Wade Chenin Blanc, he ensured the deck was stacked with the kind of 100-point talent that could deliver.
With the equally legendary Jayson Pahlmeyer (yes, that Pahlmeyer) as a hands-on partner, the resulting quality far exceeds its price. A Chenin that’s as exuberant as it is pedigreed, we’re duly honored to share Wade Cellars’ all-star white.
Floral and bright, with delicate lemon blossom and rose petal top notes underscored by ripe golden apple and Asian pear, this is a Chenin that will appeal to lovers of crisp Chardonnay and clean Sauvignon Blanc. A refreshing citrus-driven acidity gives an impressive lift to its baked apple character, finishing with a sophisticated, Pahlmeyer-esque touch of earth and mineral.
The greatest athletes leave a legacy, and Dwyane Wade has moved beyond the court—where his legend is already unassailable—to the world of wine. His love for food, wine, and the finer things was kindled by his Miami Heat teammate Lebron James (who’s minted quite a few NBA oenophiles) and a $5,000 bottle of La Tâche “the wine that ruined me for life,” as he quipped to us recently.
Between his impeccable taste and competitive spirit, Dwyane is as serious now about making wine as he was then about making the playoffs. When he set out to start his own label, he took classes at Harvard to prepare for the business side and took an assist from his friend Jayson Pahlmeyer, whose iconic eponymous 100-point label was described by Robert M. Parker Jr. as having “certainly one of the most consistently superb resumés for the last 30 years that any winery could desire.”
When we spoke with Dwyane about his Three by Wade collection, he revealed that this Chenin Blanc is the first wine he’d encourage people to try in his portfolio (which includes a $200 flagship red). “It’s the kind of wine I gravitate towards—refreshing and medium-bodied. Plus, it pairs great with pork tenderloin.”
A Pahlmeyer white priced for Tuesday nights by the grill is already a winning proposition. Add Dwyane’s meticulous palate—and the drive to make wine he can proudly share with LeBron—and you’ve got a whole new $20 ball game. We’re honored to get the call from Dwyane and Jayson on this one and can’t wait for you to try it.
