An Ancient Grape with Modern Style

An ancient grape of incredible mineral-driven vibrancy, the region’s leading winemaker, and an under-$15 price tag come together in stunning fashion in the 2019 Vinosia Falanghina. This is Southern Italy’s freshest white wine, and one of its greatest values.

Next to the world’s most vibrant bottlings, the 2019 Vinosia shines bright. Grown from Falanghina Beneventano, an ancient and noble Italian variety famously cultivated by the Romans, this wine proudly delivers terroir-driven character on the level of Chablis, New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, and Spanish Albariño. It’s pure, refreshing deliciousness, driven by electrifying citrus outlined with flower blossoms and crushed limestone.

If you’re not familiar with Falanghina or the extraordinary white wines of Campania, this is the place to start. Forbes called Campania “home to Italy’s finest white wines,” while Jancis Robinson counted the region’s vineyards among “Italy’s most exciting.”

Vinosia owners Mario and Luciano Ercolino grew up in Campania and are directly responsible for the region’s rise. In 1986, along with other family members, they founded Feudi di San Gregorio, the winery that put Campania on the map. With Mario as winemaker, Feudi di San Gregorio earned countless 90+ scores from critics like Wine Advocate

No one is better qualified to harness Campania’s extraordinary terroir, and in 2003, Mario and Luciano founded Vinosia on the same principles and techniques used at their original winery.

Their 2019 Falanghina hails from the mountainous Benevento area, an hour east of Naples, where the soils are strewn with volcanic matter from ancient eruptions of nearby Mount Vesuvius. Sweeping breezes arrive from the Mediterranean, keeping the vines healthy and cool, while Southern Italy’s ample sunshine and warmth allow the grapes to ripen perfectly.

The incredible balance of fine minerality and racy, energetic fruit that is naturally expressed in the grapes is refined by Mario’s approach in the cellar, where every choice is centered around vibrancy and elegance. To accentuate freshness and purity, he vinifies in stainless steel, and follows that process with a short period of bottle-aging.

Pair a chilly bottle of this with shrimp ceviche or a dozen West Coast oysters on the half shell for an explosive pop. Or deep-fry those same oysters and watch this slice through the richness with laser focus. No matter when you serve it, the 2019 Vinosia will elevate your experience.

The class, pedigree, and pleasure delivered by the 2019 Vinosia Falanghina go far beyond the standard of a $15 bottle. This joins the top tier of the world’s most exuberant white wines while delivering considerably more value than most. There’s no better choice for a case-buy.
