Straight from the Golden Mile
In Ribera del Duero, Mother Nature throws the kitchen sink at the deep-rooted Tempranillo vines. They endure bitter winters, sweltering sun, and extreme temperature variation throughout the day. That crucible vests the grapes with tremendous intensity.
But not everywhere in Ribera is the same. The Spanish DO might cut a 115-kilometer-long, 35-kilometer-wide swath in Castilla-Leon, but the strip between the town of Peñafiel and Tudela de Duero—that’s Ribera’s “Golden Mile.”
This is where the icons dwell: Vega Sicilia, Pingus, Hacienda Monasterio, and more are all located in this area, as is Lagar de Proventus, producer of the 2019 Tr3smano Ribera. Grown in an outstanding vintage, this bottle earned 93 points from the Decanter World Wine Awards, who praised it as “rich, powerful, intense, and broad,” with spectacular aging potential.
Tr3smano is a partnership between three eminent wine professionals, and it centers on 60 hectares of vines in the Golden Mile. The vines are aged 40-80 years, and their vineyards are adjacent to holdings of some of the most prestigious names in the region, namely Vega Sicilia and Alión.
Ripe-fruit intensity—that’s what wine lovers want out of Ribera, that’s what we LOVE about Ribera, and that’s what you get here. After spending 16 months in French and American oak barrels, this wine is powerful yet elegant, showing dark aromas of baked black cherry and blackberry, accented by sun-kissed lilacs and violets, licorice, black olives, and tobacco spice. The mouthfeel is juicy and complex, with well-knit tannins that carry a long finish.
Ribera is ground zero for elegant Spanish richness, and this bottle from the region’s finest stretch does its provenance proud. Fire up the grill and break out the aged cheese!
