What 99pt Bordeaux Legends Make to Drink Now

The ultimate white Bordeaux has arrived from Graves and we couldn’t be more ready for it.

Unlocking an allocation of this mouthwatering 2019 Michael Lynch Reserve Blanc felt like winning the Bordeaux lottery (even if it required more longstanding connections than luck).

That’s because it’s a small batch, hyper-limited passion project from the owner of Pauillac’s legendary Château Lynch-Bages. A rare prize for Bordeaux insiders, it almost never finds its way into the United States—yet after working diligently to secure the 91-point 2019 Reserve Blanc, we have a few cases to share.

A classic blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon, this is as definitive as it gets with Bordeaux Blanc. Aged in French oak, there is a golden roundness that frames the Sauvignon Blanc’s brightness while accentuating the Sémillon’s liquid velvet character.

Jean-Charles Cazes is one of the most prestigious names on the Left Bank, especially after Robert Parker credited Lynch-Bages’ “return with a vengeance” solely to Cazes’s revival of the historic 99-point Pauillac benchmark.

Though committed to his $150+ Cabernet-based flagship, Cazes admits he’s not a patient winemaker, which is why he sought a more approachable white wine he could enjoy within a year of making it—though, trust us, this 2019 will cellar another six years or more.

Bordeaux yields were low in 2019, amplifying the concentrated flavors in this wine while diminishing its availability anywhere but the Wine Access wine club. A 91-point rarity made by one of the Left Bank’s most revered names—for Bordeaux Blanc lovers and fans of fuller-bodied white wines, this Michael Lynch Reserve Blanc is the vinous golden ticket.
