We’re thrilled to share the 2019 Kistler Vineyards Chardonnay Sonoma Mountain, a single-site wine from one of their top sources.
This is a bottle capable of drawing as many gasps as Montrachet. Pouring a bright gold in the glass, it’s got an effusive nose of crushed apples and pears, white flowers, and toasted spice, accented by wet rocks and smoke. It’s full-bodied, round, and lush, with a touch of salted caramel on the lively finish.
Ever since Steve Kistler and the late Mark Bixler founded the winery in 1978, Kistler has been different. While many wineries select multiple grape clones like they do yeast strains or barrels, Kistler works with just one clone of Chardonnay. The winery has refined it over the years, propagating vines of low yields, great concentration, and brisk natural acidity—vines that produce gorgeous site-transparent wines.
