“Made My Eyes Roll Back In My Head”
Does any wine match its name more perfectly than Guigal’s Ex Voto Ermitage?
Ex Voto. The term just drips with seriousness, solidity, power—words that describe Guigal’s world-class Ermitage perfectly. Ex Voto is the only Guigal wine that stands with the coveted La La Côte-Rôties in terms of outright collectibility.
And in rarity and power, it surpasses them.
An aromatic and show-stopping 100% Syrah from vines aged 50–90 years, the 2019 hails from a vintage that stands as one of the greatest this century in the Northern Rhône. It’s “got perfection written all over it,” asserts Jeb Dunnuck, who says the 97–100 point wine “made my eyes roll back in my head.” It’s a bottle fit to share cellar space with the great wines of the world, bar none.
E. Guigal, based in Ampuis in the Northern Rhône, is one of France’s iconic producers. Led by Marcel Guigal—who Robert Parker famously called “this planet’s greatest winemaker”—and his son Philippe, the winery is best known for their “La La” Côte-Rôties, which enjoy the same collector-cachet as First Growth Bordeaux and Grand Cru Burgundy.
The magnificent 2019 Ex Voto comes from four of the finest plots on Hermitage hill: Bessards, Greffieux, Murets, and Hermite. Each block is only about one acre, and the wine ages for a staggering 42 months in 100% new oak barrels, fashioned at Guigal’s own cooperage.
This is a must for collectors, and we hope you enjoy it over the coming decades.
