A Grand Tour of Washington’s Best Sites

This red is built to thrill, pure and simple.

Named after the Médoc’s wine route, the 2019 D2 from member-favorite DeLille Cellars captures all of that region’s famed savoriness and intricacy. With outstanding wines like this, it’s no wonder Robert Parker called DeLille “the Lafite-Rothschild of Washington State.”

There’s one BIG thing to know about this wine: It’s made from an absolute Murderer’s Row of sources. We’re talking ‘27 and ‘28 Yankees, a who’s-who of simply the best vineyards in the entire state: Red Willow, Harrison Hill, Ciel du Cheval, Klipsun, Boushey, DuBrul, Upchurch and Grand Ciel are all represented in this blend.

The last time we offered the D2, we had a stampede on our hands. One member review hailed it as the “best blend we've ever bought from Wine Access.” Another said, “We keep hoping it will come up again. We've cellared what we have remaining in case it doesn't!”

When he first crafted D2 more than 25 years ago, DeLille’s head winemaker, Chris Upchurch, forged the trail for Bordeaux-style blends in Washington state. He’s spent the last quarter-century perfecting his art, even whipping up a blend on the morning of his own wedding. That combination of relentless dedication and all-star sites makes this wine truly exceptional.

Composed of 60% Merlot, 34% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot, D2 offers a delicious trek through the Columbia Valley’s most acclaimed Washington appellations. Upchurch maximizes his grapes’ potential and elicits further complexity by aging the wine for 18 months in 55% new French oak.

It’s hard to find a Bordeaux blend in Napa, Washington, or France that offers this sort of quality and pedigree for the price.
