2019 Clos de Napa Pinot Noir Cellar Reserve Carneros Napa Valley 750 ml

Looking out on the Carneros source of the 2019 Clos de Napa Pinot Noir Cellar Reserve, it was impossible to miss the star of the neighborhood: Hyde Vineyard—the spectacular source for $60-$140 bottles from the likes of Hyde de Villaine and Patz & Hall—sitting just across Highway 12.

Our attention snapped back when Trevor Sheehan, our go-to guy for great Napa value, reminded us that we couldn’t name the vineyard in the offer. We hadn’t been to this exact address on Highway 12 before, but we had a feeling of déjà vu. That’s because Trevor has a talent for transforming coveted grapes from top Napa vineyards into STUNNING bargains. 

Many Wine Access members already know Trevor’s handiwork from the past few years with Wine Access. He got his start over a decade ago, and now—armed with a Rolodex of gold and a reputation for scoring “unobtainable” grapes—he rarely sources from less than the best. As such, we’ve yet to say no when he’s made us an offer.

Trevor’s ability to deliver Pinots that drink like bottles that cost MULTIPLES more has made his wines by-the-glass catnip for restaurants. In fact, that was how we first stumbled across his bottlings: When one of our Wine Team members, Eduardo Dingler, was still pouring every night as a sommelier, Trevor became one of his favorite producers to put on his lists.

The 2019 is a product of a single vineyard in Carneros, blessed with clay-loam soils and a cool microclimate. Deep, strapping, and giving, the Pinot blooms with aromas of blueberries, black plums, vanilla-scented dark strawberry, and a kiss of cherry cola. Talk about a crowd-please for every night of the week!
