Rewinding a Decade of Pricing in Southern Rhône

It’s been YEARS since we thought we could get great Châteauneuf-du-pape at this price, even at the entry-level register. Domaine de la Janasse’s Tradition? $50. Famille Perrin Les Sinards? $56. Le Ferme du Mont Vendage? $65. That makes this the ultimate throwback deal—an unbelievable bargain that rewinds a decade of pricing.

When it comes to the 2019 Bonpas Bonus Passus Châteneauf-du-Pape, there’s no mystery about what you’re getting. Produced by French vintner Jean-Charles Boisset—the recipient of Wine Enthusiast’s Person of the Year award AND fourteen 95+ scores in the last year alone—the Bonpas house delivers outstanding quality from a big-time player in the business.

2019 in the Southern Rhône was a maximalist vintage, handing out tannin, color, concentration, and acidity in huge proportions, supercharging the region’s releases. If you love big, bold, characterful wines.

    making 2019 a must-buy year.

That describes this high-octane Châteauneuf-du-Pape to a tee. Named for the bonus passus, or “safe crossing” that monks once used to traverse the Durance River, it’s drawn off vineyards surrounding the village of Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

The sand and sandstone soils help lend floral flourishes and a filigreed delicacy this mighty blend of Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre. Submerged cap fermentation creates a slow, rich extraction, smoothing out the tannins.

If you’ve bought Rhône wines from us in the past, you know our connections with Jean-Charles Boisset and this winery run deep. Our history of sales with the 700-year-old estate set us perfectly for this opportunity to snap up a small allocation of the Bonus Passus Châteauneuf-du-Pape at a price that hasn’t been seen for close to a decade.

If there was ever a smart case-buy for CdP—this is it!
