Double-95-Point Beauty from the Slopes above Rutherford

We’re pleased to present a single-vineyard Napa Valley Cabernet rarity from the great 2018 vintage—one that is nearly impossible to find elsewhere.

Waypoint is owned by Argentinian billionaire Alejandro Bulgheroni, and their Lowrey Vineyard Basalt Ledge Cabernet comes from fruit in the Upper Range project above the east side of Rutherford. It was planted by the Bettinelli family, master viticulturists perhaps best known for cultivating Yountville’s legendary Sleeping Lady Vineyard.

A prime hillside source for the likes of Realm’s Bard ($160), Falstaff ($280), and Accendo Laurea ($150), the Upper Range Lowrey Vineyard is located in between Silverado Trail and Lake Hennessey, northwest of Pritchard Hill. It is spotless, sun-baked Vaca Range hillside terroir, which is why this is such a favorite source for Realm.

This wine was ushered into the bottle by Tim Milos, the 100-point talent behind Hidden Ridge and Immortal Estate. Tim is one of the smartest people making wine in Napa Valley: He holds a Ph.D. in molecular plant pathology plus a Master's in Enology and Viticulture from UC Davis. He’s a veteran of Opus One, S. Anderson, and many more Napa luminaries.

The 2018 vintage—which Wine Spectator rated as Napa’s best in over 20 years—had a major hand in this wine’s greatness as well. Flaunting aromas of cocoa-dusted, chocolate-covered cherries, dusty chaparral, dried thyme, and roasted soil, it’s got enough structure and freshness to go strong for another eight years or more!
