One of the Fastest Calls We’ve Ever Made

A 92-point picture of Sangiovese excellence, the 2018 Triacca La Madonnina Bello Stento Chianti Classico is so immediately appealing, so undeniably delicious, so perfectly perched between intrigue and easy enjoyment that we couldn’t imagine a wine lover who wouldn’t flip for a glass, a bottle, a case.

The charms make sense considering the man behind the bottle is Vittorio Fiore. The owner of the renowned Poggio Scalette, he’s one of Tuscany’s most influential winemakers, and widely credited for helping lead Tuscany to the worldwide acclaim it enjoys now.

But words like “renowned,” “influential,” and “acclaim” suggest big money, while the 2018 Bello Stento is a carefree bottle-popper. Drinking beautifully at any time of day and with just about any Italian or American dish you can whip up, it shows why Chianti Classico will always be one of the unbeatable go-to reds in the world of wine.

Bello Stento comes from the Triacca family, who acquired the La Madonnina estate in the Chianti Classico zone in 1969. A majestic, rolling-hill area in Greve, it had been used by previous owners as a hunting preserve, so the Triaccas did the grueling work of clearing and planting the previously uncultivated land.

Planting this historic estate took vision, as did the move to hire Vittorio Fiore. Born in Northern Italy, Fiore moved to Tuscany in the late 1970s and embarked on a career as a consulting enologist, a position that would enable him to work with varied products and draw inspiration from varied terroirs.

Every bit of his celebrated touch shows in this 2018 Bello Stento. Composed of 100% Sangiovese, full of vibrant red fruit and energy, it’s a sensational Chianti Classico.
