Ten Times as Much Wouldn’t Be Enough
Every year, we get a tiny allocation of Roagna’s epic wines from Barolo and Barbaresco. Every year, we sell out. Every year, we and our Piedmont collectors start counting down until the next release.
Roagna is one of Piedmont’s truly iconic wineries, and if you love old-school, collectible Nebbiolo they are probably already on your radar—and definitely should be. Producers since the 1800s, they boast some of the top sites in the region and pride themselves on only using vines with significant age. The result is wines that transmit their terroir with bell-like clarity.
Collectors around the world line up for these traditionally made masterpieces, which are among the most coveted—and limited—releases each vintage. Today, we’ve got their 2018 Pajé Barbaresco, and anyone interested better act fast: We have just a tiny allocation of this incredible wine, and could easily sell ten times as much.
The name Pajé is derived from the local Piedmontese dialect, and refers to the historic vineyard site behind this Barbaresco. The 2018 comes from a single site, a southwest-facing amphitheater where the vines’ minimum age is an astounding 50 years old. The vineyard is composed of marl and limestone, perfectly poised to grow Nebbiolo. If you want instant credibility with other Langhe-hounds, this is your bottle. It will age for decades.
