Winemaker of the Year Crafts a Classic
Even in a vintage that produced a bounty of exceptional wines, the 2018 Larkmead Cabernet Sauvignon was one of Wine Enthusiast’s top-rated Napa Cabernets. Honed by San Francisco Chronicle Winemaker of the Year Dan Petroski, it’s the epitome of Valley-floor richness and power.
Dark and exceptionally aromatic, the wine bursts with notes of cassis, black cherry, and pipe tobacco that mingle with graphite, vanilla, and cacao. The palate is lush yet focused, with a purity of flavor, while characteristic Calistoga tannins are well integrated, leading to a long finish that sings with Larkmead’s signature minerality.
Larkmead has long been regarded as classic Napa terroir, and it’s one of the region’s most revered properties. The San Francisco Chronicle described it as “110 acres of prime Calistoga vineyard land, sandwiched between the Mayacamas and Vaca ranges,” a site that “gets the best influences of both mountains’ benchlands.”
In his time as Larkmead’s winemaker (up until this past summer), Dan conveyed that terroir wonderfully, producing a 100-pointer in his first full season. Since then, his work at Larkmead and his own Massican winery has made him one of the most decorated vintners in the Valley. We’ve loved his wines for years, and we’re proud to be his first call when he tastes something he loves. We highly suggest you give this wine a place of honor in your cellar.
