    A Priceless Sip of Silex

There might be no winery in the world that has mastered one grape variety more completely than Domaine Didier Dagueneau has Sauvignon Blanc. And Silex may be their best-known bottling.

A groundbreaking wine sourced from 50-year-old vines planted on parcels high in flint (silex), the wine is aged in new “cigar-shaped” barrels built to Dagueneau’s specifications. Bright and fresh yet powerful, laden with crushed-rock minerality, it’s an alluring and age-worthy wine that has earned its icon status.

A maverick fourth-generation winemaker informed by the wisdom of his forebears but inspired by the great wines of Burgundy, Didier Dagueneau declined to join the family enterprise, instead opting to start his own estate. He focused on the great terroirs of Pouilly-Fumé, crafting his first vintage (including a pioneering single-parcel wine) in 1982. In 1985 he introduced his now-iconic Silex.

Didier passed away in 2008, and his son Louis-Benjamin—who had worked alongside Didier and absorbed his practices—took over. Louis-Benjamin inherited his father’s perfectionism, drive, and will: Due to his methods, the bottles no longer bear the Pouilly-Fumé label… but the wines are as good as ever.
