We are absolutely in love with Christophe Baron’s wild, intense Syrah. The first reveals a red brimming with wild, complex character. It’s meaty and dense on the nose, showing notes of beef bouillon and charcuterie on top of boysenberries and crushed blueberries. The palate is rich and anchored to a core of iron and minerals that will surely continue to emerge over the long life of this wine. 

Cayuse is a story of fierce independence and divine inspiration. Winemaker Christophe Baron grew up in a family that had worked the land in Champagne for four centuries. That means he was fated to become a winemaker—but his life took a couple unexpected turns. First he moved to Oregon. Then, on a visit to Walla Walla, Washington, he spotted a piece of land littered with grapefruit-sized stones. He instantly scrapped his Oregon plans and resolved to buy that special piece of land, which recalled the stony vineyards of the Southern Rhône.
